Renting checklist
A short review list for comparing rental options before making a decision.
- Compare the full monthly cost, including utilities, parking, service fees, and recurring charges.
- Read the lease terms for deposits, renewal rules, notice periods, penalties, and maintenance responsibilities.
- Check the condition of doors, windows, appliances, water pressure, heating, cooling, storage, and common areas.
- Visit or research the neighborhood at different times when possible, especially for noise, transit, and daily errands.
- Ask how repairs are requested, how quickly they are handled, and what is documented before move-in.
- Keep copies of listing details, messages, payment records, inspection notes, and the signed lease.
